The design brief was to create a retail store for a brand that matched a specific cause. For this project, LUSH Cosmetics was chosen to align with the social and environmental cause, Ethical Buying.
Transparency as a concept has been brought into the design in both a visual and communicative way. Bringing attention to the industries that consumers support through buying decisions is an important part of transparency. Visual transparency has been applied through the use of a resin floor and ceiling strip and frosted glass staff rooms.
LUSH encourages ethical buying by bringing light to the social and environmental impact of consumer behaviours. The LUSH showroom has been designed to bring attention to relevant issues, to aid in the creation of better consumer behaviour. Use of symbolic imagery such as ocean bubbles on the 'Bath-Bomb' wall to show the impact of what is flushed down the drain and the graphic hands on the '#supportfairtrade' photobooth, to show the importance of fair trade working conditions in underprivileged communities, bring attention to the importance of ethical buying. The power of social media in spreading awareness has been applied to the project by encouraging hashtag social media movements and photobooths for customers to take pictures.

Interaction between LUSH as a brand and the consumer is encouraged through the creation of social spaces. The 'Refill Wall' allows customers to interact directly with the product and also encourage environmentally-friendly behaviour. The 'Try-it" station allows the consumer to try the products before purchase in a fun way. The taking of photographs is encouraged through photobooth backgrounds, that raise further awareness of ethical buying.
