The brief required a design solution for a skin clinic based in Durban. The pace had to be transformed into a healing space that took into consideration universal design and green building accreditation requirements.

The concept of dreams has been applied to the project, in order to create a relaxing environment. This has been done through using dream-like colours and motifs such as moons and cloud swirls. Universal accessibility has been included in the project by utilising soft focus lighting that is comfortable for patients, a procedure room that has wheelchair access on the bottom floor and all stair, door and material specifications comply with inclusive design regulations.

To combat the humidity and heat of Durban, fans and air conditioners have been placed in treatment rooms for patient comfort. Dry ice has been used in the Juice Bar, which keeps drinks cool whilst using minimal energy. The cold from the dry ice smoke moves through space and cools down the ground floor, which in turn prevents hot air from rising to the first floor.

The result is a calming design that is visually pleasing and also comfortable to be in, assisting in relieving any nerves that patients may have before getting procedures done.
